Case Description

  • Sudden appearance of typical deformation and lameness
The pastern was noted to have "collapsed" in a plantar direction, and the horse showed a 3/5 degree lameness.
  • Gradual development of muscle atrophy
Disuse atrophy was generalized throughout the left hind (LH) limb, and most readily noted in the gluteal area
  • Persistence of deformation
Despite attempts at protective bandaging and splinting, the deformation persisted, as did the lameness.
