Complications
- Weakness of suspensory apparatus Such weakness is the result of a protracted period of external fixation in a young (=/ < I year) animal.
- Dorsiflexion of the pedal joint
Weakness of the flexor tendons leads to the abnormal position of the digit observed.

- Secondary damage
If allowed to exercise at will in this condition, secondary damage to the proximal sesamoids or suspensory ligament can occur.
