The AONA CME Advisory Board (CMEAB) reports to the
AONA Executive Committee. The CMEAB consists of the chairs from each of the
subspecialty education committees, and several ex-officio members. The CMEAB
meets a minimum of twice each year, usually in January and June. The CMEAB may
also create subcommittees and task forces as necessary. (See attached listing of
members).
The CMEAB provides guidance to each education
committee and is responsible for assuring that:

ACCME Essential Areas
and their Elements and the Standards for Commercial Support are being met

AONA is in compliance
with AMA, FDA, and OIG guidelines as they apply to certified CME activities
-
Mission Statement of
AONA is congruent that of the AO Foundation
-
Mission Statement of
each specialty education committee is congruent with that of the AONA
-
Needs assessments and
course evaluations are conducted and reviewed by each specialty education
committee on an on-going basis
-
Curriculum changes
are based on established educational needs of the targeted audiences
-
Each specialty
education committee is monitoring the educational quality of their activities
and addressing concerns as needed
-
All courses and
educational activities incorporate adult learning principles
-
All activities meet
the definition of CME
-
All committees assure
that recommendations involving clinical medicine in their courses are based on
evidence that is accepted within the profession of medicine as adequate
justification for their indications and contraindications in the care of
patients

All committees assure
that all scientific research referred to, reported or used in their CME
activities in support or justification of a patient care recommendation must
conform to the generally accepted standards of experimental design, data
collection and analysis

Goals of each
specialty education committee are periodically reviewed
